Join us for a free screening of Willie Velasquez: Your Vote is Your Voice, a documentary film by Hector Galan.
Willie Velasquez launched a grassroots movement that forever changed the Nation’s political landscape. Through his nonpartisan Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project (SVREP), from his homebase of San Antonio, Velasquez launched over a thousand voter registration drives in 200 cities, creating a movement that has continued to grow in power each year. Using interviews with people like Henry Cisneros and Julian Castro, along with rare archival footage and photos, this 2016 documentary by Hector Galan explores Velasquez’s story and tells a dynamic story of political empowerment that continues to be relevant today.
This screening will be held at Jaime's Place, and is presented in collaboration with MonteVideo.

In WILLIE VELASQUEZ YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE, a production of Galan Incorporated and Latino Public Broadcasting, viewers meet the man who led the Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project and launched 1,000 voter registration drives in 200 cities, paving the way for Latinos to have a voice in government and underscoring the growing power of the Latino vote.
